It was during February 1991 in Durban, South Africa, when I was introduced to chanting!
Ram & Dianna, from Ananda Brotherhood Village in California, visited South Africa to spread the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda and kriya yoga.
They were singing chants from Yogananda, called Cosmic Chants, and that blew me away! I soon realised that chanting is all about opening the heart space and connecting with the Divine!
Chanting is a great way of practising Bhakti Yoga - the Yoga of Devotion. Creating space within the heart to connect and share is easily felt during a kirtan session.
A week later I bought my first small basic harmonium and started chanting a week thereafter! "The greater the will, the greater the flow of energy" - Paramahansa Yogananda. This was very true in my case. I wanted to learn to play harmonium and chant - and I did.
It continued for a number of years and then I started chanting less and less - to busy, no time, etc, etc. Then October 2012 - the need for chanting started all over again. The harmonium (new) was dusted and serviced, harmonium lessons started again. The Will is there again!
My Vision with Chanting:- to start a Kirtan group and spread the message and value of Chanting to people!
A Chanting group is formed: - Kundalini Rising!
